Mon premier essai (j’aime l’appeler bedroom essay), en anglais, mon premier livre en tant qu’éditrice (ce qui suppose des centaines de mails pour demander aux artistes, photographes et labels l’autorisation d’utiliser des visuels à titre gracieux, mais aussi une supevision de la mise en page et autres choix esthétiques tels que choix du papier, etc.), ma première traduction du français à l’anglais (ce n’était vraiment pas prévu) et le premier de mes livres qui m’aura fait voyager un peu partout en Europe. C’est aussi un livre qui m’aura permis de rencontrer ou du moins d’échanger avec de nombreuses artistes dont j’aime le travail et mêlme de devenir amie avec certaines d’entre elles – à savoir ce qui m’est arrivé de plus gratifiant à ce jour.
Basta Now. Women, Trans & Non-binary in Experimental Music is a non-academic essay by French poet, novelist and music enthusiast Fanny Chiarello. It’s also the first book to be published by Permanent Draft, an all-female record label and micro-press founded by Chiarello & musician Valentina Magaletti, dedicated to promoting contemporary female, non-binary and transgender artists.
Basta Now is essentially a huge (yet admittedly not definitive) overview of 2,371 womxn in the global experimental sound & music scene. It’s been written in playful and compelling prose and stylishly presented with photos, illustrations, and discographies.
